If you can't tell that was sarcastic, you really need to get your sarcasm detector adjusted. Although, in all fairness, I am on cracketycrak anyway.
Edit--I made a minor adjustment to the sarcasm level. You were right, I was kind of sending mixed signals. Feel free to recheck the post to see if your Sarcasm detector is now fully functional.

to be perfectly honest i dont believe that this mass banning was just a mistake one what bot detecting paramater where met... im more inclined to believe that it just went hayway from faulty coding and started banning in a pattern that had nothing to do with botting type activities...
i would even go as far to say that i wouldnt be surprized if more than half of the 4000 banns were actually unjustified...
imagine the only accounts right now that are getting unbanned are those that are following this issue or have the instingt to submit a support ticket on the issue...
that means there are still people out there on vacation that have no clue they got banned (similar to you situation i assume)
there are people out there that are just taking extended breaks from GW and when they attempt to com back a week/month whatever from now to find there account got banned..
and there are still those who dont read these boards or others with the issue and simple maybe to young to know what to do by themselves on the issue...
oh and dont forget the folks that are "convinced" or "accepting" that they did something wrong when they actually didn't and are to timid to confront the situation so they just accept the punishment and move on
i mean the GW site doesnt have any statement about the "accidental" bannings even...

Nor will it ever, unless it gets reported in a news story. ANet reps may sometime seem like imbeciles but even they can't be stupid enough to openly admit to making this kind of mistake on their own website unless they have to. Sure if there's an article in a game magazine or if some tech article or show mentions it, but as long as it stays only on the forums the damage is contained. At most you might see a new link on their support site concerning the issue but even that might be admitting too much culpability.

I understand what you saying.
I have a 55 monk, yes, but I dont bot. I hope everyone with a 55 got banned.
I also did chest runs alot, FoW, Raisu Palace..etc. Hope that didnt effect my ban.
And no one had access to my account while i was gone, so that isnt the problem. What a great surprise for my return from vacation.

Not all the sudden
Ok, so I hear a lot of gripes here about how 'instantaneous' the bannings were. Do you realize they've had about 1 1/2 months to collect data since their last publicly announced bot purge? That means it is very possible that the information they used for the current set of bans was based on that entire time period. With the number of people on GW, I'm sure it takes the scripts a while to accurately (or inaccurately as some of us have seen) tag a bot account. As I said earlier, I got banned without reason and reinstated so I'm not just playing devil's advocate. Please note that I'm not saying that there wasn't something wrong with the search algorithm this time, but don't think that it was necessarily shoot on sight.

I jus recently got unbanned,although i am reliived this is the message i recieved;
Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars customer support team. A game moderator did witness automated behaviour in game while observing your character, this indicated the use of an automated third-party program, which is why we closed the account. In this case, as you are a one-time offender, we will remove the ban. However, please be aware that if we notice similar behaviour in the future, we will have to close your account permanently. Please allow 24 hours for this to take effect.

Let me guess; You are playing a lvl20 Mo/Wa and standing on a pile of other Mo/Was in Elonas, or you don't stop when the message of overfarming has been given?
Ps. Congratz for having your account back

first step by anet in dealing w/ bots... didn't went all too well but hopefully they do the job better next time since from what Elri posted anet seems to be identifying the bots based on observations (probably human observations(?) which is prone to *human* errors. continue to ban those bots anet.
if you get banned but never used bots then i suppose some inquiries at their customer support might solve your problem. but for those who do use bots and for a very long time already.. i for one support anet 100% in their crusade to ban *YOUR* accounts. /wave

I wasn't banned and I don't know anyone who was but I find what happened pretty bad. I find it funny that Anet said only a few hundred accounts where unrightfully banned when the reports are staggering.
In this letter they probably can't admit that they made a mistake so they are giving this as a default message to everyone who was banned wrongfully. My guess as to why people like you where banned is because they noticed you having patterns like when you chest farm, or farm (taking the same path every time), or really doing anything that makes you look like a gold farmer. Then later they come back and check on you and you are still farming doing much of the same things. That can make you appear as a bot, but I really think Anet RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed up.
And if anyone is walking on eggshells it is Anet.
I'm not a representitive of Anet or anything, but that seems like a reasonable explanation.

Just as for comparison, here was my final response from PlayNC Support:
Quote:
Hello,
Thank you for contact Guild Wars Support. After reviewing the issue, it appears that your account was blocked in error. Your account is now released and you should be able to log in to Guild Wars. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
|
This was received relatively early (07/05/2006 09:39 PM) given others' experiences here after submitting a support request within two hours of being banned (07/05/2006 02:54 PM).

Next i will be banned for fame farming so i will probably never reach my rank 10..

just too relax you guys a bit i got banned on the dragon festival
first day got my acount back on the thirt day after sending 1 mail too support if you are sure of your innocene just send them a mail they will realy look in too that when they realised my acount i got the messege that it was banned in error
standing afk in the rings does not count as botfarming
also too permantly ban you without warning you must use either bot programs or use exploit selling game stuf for real money in other cases you get marks and warnings before they ban you permantly
i woudent advise people too spam support if you sent 1 mail be sure they got it and they wil reply as soon as they can keep in mind how many people contact support
but i woudnt worry im sure you all who got banned wrngfully will get your acounts back the longest ban i heard that was wrong was like 3 weeks soo good luck too al of you

I have never seen it either, but I believe it happens when you farm a lot.
I personally believe that when a Mo/Wa keeps on farming, even after the anti-farm warning has been given, it is determined with 95% predictability to be a farm bot. Nobody, in his/her right mind, will keep on farming when the loot is rapidly declining. I don't think that bots are sophisticated enough to act upon that message.
